Design and Build

Unsurprisingly enough, the Note III follows the same typical design as that of its predecessors. True that it doesn’t have its own unique design, except that it’s much bigger, like a bigger version of the S4, only thinner. However, you really won’t expect otherwise, would you?

It is still constructed of plastic, which is a bit of a letdown for those expecting a metal Note. Interestingly, though, it is lighter than the Note II, tipping the scales at 5.93 oz. It could be a bit of an effort to hold it in one hand, in fact, it is best to use it using two hands. But still, the large size in mobile phones nowadays is becoming normal, so a little extra size won’t hurt that bad. It is easily compensated for by the thinner size and the smart placement of the buttons, making the device still comfortable to grip.

S Pen

The S Pen is what distinguishes the Note Series from the rest of the Samsung phones and other phones in the market. The updated S Pen in the Note III has a more pencil-like shape and comes in handy when used in conjunction with Air View functionalities. One noticeable update is when the device recognizes whenever the S Pen is removed or inserted in its slot. There’s also a new feature called Air Command, which allows the user to access extra functions. Lastly, it alerts the user whenever the S Pen is too far away and missing in its slot.

Display

While massive mobile phones are not entirely new, the added 0.2 inches of screen is a very welcome improvement. The Note III carries a larger 5.7 inch Super AMOLED display and with a full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, it is certainly even more gorgeous than the last year’s model.

Camera

What you will see in the Note III is the same 13MP shooter like that of the Galaxy S4. The built-in camera app is packed with a good number of features and shooting modes, such as Panorama, Burst, HDR, Beauty Face, Best Photo, Best Face, Eraser, Golf, and more. Both indoor and outdoor shots are simply breathtaking, with crisp details and vibrant colors. It also snaps photos of moving objects clearly.

Pros

  • Massive screen great for most tasks
  • Powerful, quad-core processor
  • Enhanced S Pen
  • Longer battery life
  • Great camera

Cons

  • It is a bit expensive
  • Large and might not be too handy for some users
  • It still has the same plastic body

The Verdict

There’s no question that the Note III is one gorgeous and powerful, multitasking gadget. It’s hard to forget that it’s still the same plastic Samsung, which many will still complain about. There’s also the huge size that can be hard to fit all pockets. But still, there’s no other good reason why anyone would shy away from buying this handset. If you’re after speed, functionality, amazing camera, powerful battery life, and a large display, this phone certainly deserves your attention.
